Public speaking fear can be a major obstacle if you want to progress your career. Here are several public speaking tricks and a recommendation if you are searching for a public speaking trainer. Use Audiovisual Aids Wisely. Too many can break the direct connection to the audience, so use them sparingly. They should enhance or clarify your content, or capture and maintain your audience’s attention. Practice Does Not Make Perfect: Good communication is never perfect, and nobody expects you to be perfect. However, putting in the requisite time to prepare will help you deliver a better speech. You may not be able to shake your nerves entirely, but you can learn to minimize them.
Conquer your fear: Easier said than done, but understanding how your nerves affect your ability to speak publicly is a good start. Knowing what might happen will help to calm your nerves and carry on if they start. Firstly, the more prepared you are, the better and less nervous you will be and the better you will be able to deal with any mishaps. Do not drink caffeine beforehand it will heighten your anxiety. But do take water in case you get a dry mouth. Eat something beforehand, a low sugar level won’t help to dispel any nervous thoughts and will also affect your concentration levels. Remember that the audience is not there to see you. They are much more interested in what you have to say. They also have no interest in you failing; they are your friends not your enemies. Remember that you are speaking as a service to your attendees, this helps focus less on you and more on the content. Don’t tell the audience you are nervous. Nearly everyone suffers from some anxiety about public speaking; it is rarely as obvious from the outside as it feels. If necessary, use breathing and relaxation techniques before you begin to help settle any last minute jitters. See extra info Overcome fear of speaking.
Practice in front of a mirror. Practicing in front of a mirror is a good way to learn the proper amount of body motion, hand usage and facial expressions. Take every opportunity to speak. The only way to get better at anything is to do it all the time. Rehearsing is good, but nothing compares to actually getting up in front of an audience and doing it for real. Practice body language and movement. Remember, communication is much more about tone and body language than the words we say. The words of course matter, but emphasis comes with movement and body language.
What people say ? Don’t skip the steps! If you don’t take the steps, if you don’t take action—nothing changes. I assure you, if you put into action the steps in this book, your life will never be the same (in a great way!). It will be worth every penny. It will be worth every minute you put into the book. There will be no time wasted here. I have read so many books on the subject of public speaking & find “Speak With No Fear” by Mike Acker, a refreshing one to read. Speak to one person at a time: One of the most terrifying things about public speaking is the crowd. Just by looking at the crowd, all in silence just to hear you speak, will send shivers down your spine. To overcome this, you just need to speak to one person at a time. Choose one member of your audience and dedicate your whole presentation to him or her. Just assume that everyone else is not paying attention. When someone asks you a question, change your focus to that person and answer the question as if the two of you are in a coffee shop chatting away. Isn’t that the most relaxing way to handle a crowd?
