Siapin Horticulture we believe urban areas are one of the best places for better management of rainwater management. Loaded with impenetrable surfaces, such as car parks, median strips, islands, etc., commercial landscapes become a motorway for deposited pollutants that drain off the ground and bombard surrounding soils with contaminants. At the Leavey Library ,they had a large damaged area so our job in this section was to repair but also add a new parking lot and repair new landscaping. The biggest part was adding new asphalt and parking lot striping. We also installed some new trees, soil mounds, and some new grass. For the Virginia Ramo Hall of Music, our goal was to put new drainage around the building, add new walkways, also we regraded new landscape and trees. The company was started in 1962 by Jack Siapin with the goal of providing high quality landscape construction and maintenance throughout Southern California. In 1978 Jack’s son Daniel joined the firm and became a partner. In 1997, Jack retired selling his stock to Daniel. Daniel’s son Gabe has joined the firm and manages the Maintenance and construction division.
Most rainwater drainage systems are installed underground in places such as landscaped areas and parking garages. Some systems consist of water pipes, while others use concrete rooms on which large filters are installed. Rainwater chambers use fabric filters, stones and pipes that have the shape of a semi-circle so that that water can seep into the soil naturally. Occasionally, rainwater chambers are also a retention system if an impenetrable membrane foil is required. We went with Orco Block Pavers, the “Mediterranean” style. With only 6 properly picked plants including Little Ollie, Agave, and some tall grasses, you can see the difference.
